Matcha at Mochicream Cafe

January 13, 2016

As a fan of coffee I'd get my java concoction from different cafes, because I want to know my options when I'm not making my own caffeine fix. So, one trip to SM The Block had me passing by Mochicream Cafe, and felt that I had to try their drinks. I did have a struggle between having coffee or trying their matcha drink. They're a Japanese cafe after all.

So, that's what I tried, Matcha Mocha. One thing for sure, the barista at Mochicream Cafe, SM The Block has got skills with latte art. I almost didn't want to drink my matcha.

Kawaii! ^_^
I was happy with my kakaibang matcha drink. It still tasted strongly of green tea latte, but with a hint of chocolate in it. This is made it very different from the other matcha lattes I've tasted. For one, the color was kind of a muddy green instead of the usual bright deep green color. And for another, it was less milky in taste (yey for the chocolate!).

The size, for me, was also perfect. It fulfilled my craving for the latte but didn't leave me wanting more or less. It wasn't too sweet either, so I really liked it. Didn't have to add sugar or anything else in my drink.

Another angle of the latte art
To make it a full snack, I ordered this sweet bread called Melon Bread in Japan (though it doesn't actually taste like melon). Mochicream's version was delish! I love the subtle sweet taste of the crust, which complemented the drink. The bread even had a bit of yeasty taste to it (kind of sour and bread-y or however you describe the smell of yeast), which was surprisingly very nice. I dunno if that made sense. But it was fully baked. It just had that yeasty taste. Hehehe.

In conclusion, I would definitely go back and try their coffee next time. I'm also curious about their mochi donut. It was kind of expensive for something as small as the rim of a regular coffee cup. Maybe even smaller. But hey, I'm someone who's always willing to try something once, so why not?
